Detachment or as Sanskrit says ‘अनासक्ति'(Anasakti), the act of just getting disconnected internally from something.
A state when something does not affect you and can not bring out from you any reactions.
So for Understanding Detachment it’s necessary that we understand what is Asakti, (आसक्ति, Attachment)
Most of us experience how daily we are emotionally triggered by someone or something.
When something brings out from you an emotion that you haven’t expected or was not under your control, that is due to attachment.
As for my personal experiences I have seen many times when a particular word or personal comments on me make me happy or sad.
When someone argue or confront us sometimes we get angry, Don’t We?
Compliments from someone we expect make us joyful.
Criticism often makes us feel sad or angry.
So all the above things are due to Attachment

This Attachment can be with anything be it a person, a place, a thing or any abstract object like our egoes.
Now the question arises how we know that we have attachment to something?
It’s simple: Observe yourselves how some particular things arouse certain types of feelings in us and that too to a certain intensity and there you might be able to understand to what you are attached to and that too how much strongly.
Once you ascertain your object of attachment and emotions to it, you are now halfway towards turning to Detachment.
Isn’t that strange? Our knowledge of attachment can teach us how to detach from something.
Now, the other half is to make ourselves consciously think about the feeling we get from the particular thing or the person.
Say for example; we feel angry when somebody utters some word to us, our immediate action will be to ignore the feeling of anger or give a witty reply so as not to hurt someone.
The Best Practice taught in the Vedas and Scriptures is to say to ourselves “I am not this body but a soul, the name, fame, feelings are for the body, I am in complete Samatvam.”
In 70% of cases we will be able to surpass the state of chaos towards the Peaceful state of mind.
The only feeling a soul has is of “ETERNAL BLISS (परमानंद)”
